CSA CE Requirements for 2007 Audit


CSA CE Choices for All CSAs

All CSAs are required to earn 18 CSA CE credits every three years; 6 of these 18 credits must be in ethics. The choices listed below are available to all CSAs, regardless of when they designated.

Required minimum: 6 CSA CE Ethics Credits
  • Complete one or more of the free online CSA CE ethics courses at WebCE:
    • Ethics in Selling to Seniors, 6 CSA CE ethics credits
    • Maximizing Integrity in Decisions with Seniors, 6 CSA CE ethics credits
    • Effective and Ethical Communication with Seniors, 6 CSA CE ethics credits

    These three courses can be applied to many state L&H CE requirements.

    Cost: these three courses are offered free to members who want only CSA CE credit. Members who want L&H or other CE will be charged an administrative fee by WebCE. Register at: http://csa.webce.com/

  • UPDATE: Complete and pass a CE course, seminar or workshop that covers an ethical aspect of working with senors from a provider approved by SCSA (6 CSA ethics credits each). Sales and marketing topicsa are not acceptable. Acceptable courses and providers are:
    • CE courses, seminars or workshops approved or offered by a national trade, industry, licensing or regulatory association, agency or organization such as the CFP Board (Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards), NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy), NASD (National Association of Securities Dealers), NASAA (North American Securities Administrators Association), NAB (National Association of Boards of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators), the SEC (U.S. Securities Exchange Commission), etc
    • State-approved insurance and other professional CE courses
    • CE courses, seminars or workshops approved or offered by accredited universities and colleges
    • WebCE Courses

Required Documentation: members must keep their own records documenting these courses: a Certificate of Completion; the name of the provider; course name, date completed, and location, if applicable; list of topics covered in the course; exam passing score, if applicable; and, if applicable for classroom CE courses, a copy of the sign in-out sheet with the member’s name for all days of attendance.

  • Audit the CSA course if it’s been more than 12 months since you earned the designation. 18 CSA CE credits; includes 6 ethics credits. Audit fee: $395. Exam not required unless you want L&H or other CE.
12 CSA CE Credits
  • Volunteer for seniors, 1 CSA CE credit for one hour of volunteering. Work must be done through a senior organization or for a senior community cause.

  • UPDATE: Participate in a professional conference that provides CE, covers topics directly related to seniors, and is sponsored by the American Society on Aging or a national industry, trade, licensing or regulatory association, agency or organization such as the CFP Board, NASBA, NASD, NASAA, NAB, and federal and state departments of professional regulation.

    One-day conference: 6 CSA CE Credits
    Two-or-more-day conference: 12 CSA CE Credits
Required Documentation: members must keep their own records documenting their participation at conferences: name of the event; sponsor name; dates and location; a list and description of conference topics that were attended by the member; and a copy of the receipt for the registration fee.

  • Attend the CSA International Summit, 12 CSA CE Credits

  • Make group presentations of Nine Tips for Seniors to Avoid Financial Abuse; maximum of 6 different audiences, 1 CSA CE credit for each presentation

  • Audit the one-day Fast Start orientation to the self-study program,6 CSA CE Credits

CSA CE Audit:SCSA regularly audits members at random for compliance with CSA CE requirements. If requested by SCSA, members must produce the documentation described in this chart. This documentation is subject to approval by SCSA. If a course or conference does not meet SCSA’s approval, members must take action to remedy the situation within 60 days of the date of the notification to retain their status as a member in good standing.

Note: If you attended the 2005 CSA Summit, you received 18 CSA CE Credits, which included 6 ethics credits. This applies only to the 2005 CSA Summit. It does not apply to any future CSA Summit.
