Home and community-based services (HCBS) enable seniors to live independently in the housing of their choice, rather than move into nursing homes. These services are flourishing across the country.

This chapter introduces the HCBS models of care commonly used today, federal and state programs that provide HCBS services in local communities, and types of services available to seniors, as well as technological developments that help disabled individuals remain in their homes.

With this knowledge, you are aware, informed and able to assist your senior clients with information about the HCBS resources available to them on the day they turn to you for guidance for themselves or a loved one.
